About Us

Hello! My name is Ella Obegi and I am currently a second year student majoring in Public Health at Cal Poly SLO and am particularly interested in global health. I am diligent, resourceful and aspire to pursue a career rooted in altruism. As a Type 1 Diabetic I hope to help others learn to navigate chronic illness, just as was once done for me. I am adventurous and always ready to try new things and hope to one day tie this spirit into my job through expedition medicine or search and rescue. My current goals while at Cal Poly are to get involved in research and study abroad before graduating in two years. Then I plan to continue my education in graduate school to become a PA while gaining experience in different communities around the world.

Hello, my name is Fatima Mauricio and I am a second year Public Health student at Cal Poly. I feel very passionate about my major as I was diagnosed as a Type 1 Diabetic when I was 2 years old. I’ve grown to understand the importance of health education through my journey and hope to partake in the field one day. I love talking with people in general, but my background has made me very good at connecting with others, especially those who have similar stories as me. I hope to become a pediatric diabetes educator after grad school, and not only make patients more comfortable in their skin, but also give them the tools and resources so they can adequately care for themselves. However, for now I hope to gain experience with my local community.

Hello, my name is Betsy Gonzalez. I am a second year Public Health major with a concentration in Community and Public Health. I have experience working as a personal care assistant in SLO county and hold certifications in CPR and First Aid. I have a passion for writing, creativity and giving speeches, which allows me to bring fresh ideas and energy into my work. One thing that makes me unique is that I learn and memorize information quickly, a skill I discovered at cheer during high school and have continued to develop. My current goal is to apply to medical school and to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in three years as part of my journey to become a pediatrician.
